Pleasley Band give opening performance at the new Bandstand on Carr Bank Park
Sunday 13th May 2012
Early maps of the park show that a bandstand used to exist in the park between 1919 and 1956. The only evidence of its existence was a hard stand, which is the current location for the war memorial.
The new site for the bandstand is centrally located within the park, acting as a central focal point for visitors.
The 8.5m octagonal bandstand and associated groundwork cost £183,000 and has been funded by section 106 monies from developments nearby.
Executive Mayor of Mansfield Tony Egginton officially opened the bandstand at 3pm, ahead of the entertainment.
He said: “Opening the new band stand at Carr Bank Park is a true honour and I’d encourage everyone to look out for future events covering all the arts”
Local ward councillor Christine Smith, who has actively pursued the installation of a bandstand on Carr Bank Park, added: “People have been promoting a bandstand on the park for some years, as they remember the events which used to take place and they enjoyed. I am delighted Carr Bank Park will be once again host to such events.
