The programme was varied and included Colonel Bogey, Fanfare & Soliloquy, A Little Prayer, which featured Frankie France, Salute to Sullivan, Be Still, Square Dance, Pastime With Good Company, finishing off with Elsa's Procession to the Minster.   Soloists for the evening included principal cornet Helen Cutting, flugel player Dave Marson who played Misty and John Hudson who joined with Helen to play Duet for Two Cats.   Representing the youth of the band was Emily Buxton 11, who for her second time stood up and played Bless This House on the cornet, and very well played.   At the other end of the age range was the band's own MD Dave who showed off his talent as a euphonium player, by performing Blaydon Races.   Dedicated in memory of the bandsmen no longer with us the band's encore piece was hymn tune Deep Harmony known as the bandsmen's hymn.

The band also held a raffle with over 20 prizes to raise money for new uniforms and instruments and monies raised on the evening totaled to over £600.  Band Secretary Helen Cutting's comments were "The whole evening was absolutely fantastic having the support from all the audience spurred the band on all night.    We hope to make this an annual event and are also looking into the possibility of a Christmas concert at the welfare.   Whilst the band are nearly at full compliment we still require two   front row cornet players and a Bb Bass player and the band will be going Butlins Brass Band Championships   in January 2009."

If anyone was at the concert and would like to pass on their comments then please fill in our guest book on our website or send to Helen Cutting 46 Stoneywell Road Leicester LE4 1AT or drop something in at the club, we would love to hear from you!

PLEASLEY BAND'S CELEBRATION CONCERT IS A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

The Pleasley Colliery Welfare Band's Celebration Concert was certainly an event to celebrate.  The band played to a packed audience of over one hundred and twenty people on Friday, 10th October.  Held at the Pleasley Miners' Welfare where the band rehearse, tickets were sold out and despite all seats being laid out, the Welfare had to open another part to allow for more people to come in.  The concert was to mark the 125 years of the band's history but more so to celebrate the return of the band after diminishing to just 6 players in 2006.

David Cutting (MD) and the band have been preparing for the concert over the last two months and all the hard work and practice certainly paid off on the night.  Past players of the band, local bandsmen and women, and also members of the community were amongst the audience, as well as some who have never heard a brass band before.
