AT PLEASLEY the Colliery mine shafts were sunk between 1871 & 1873 with the first coal production in 1875 and it wasn’t until 1883 or thereabouts that the Band was formed.
Since then the band has experienced many highs with success in national competitions and even broadcasting in the 1930’s on the BBC Home Service the forerunner of Radio 3. You will see on our contest page the honours board since 1959.
Although in the beginning of this century the band was reduced to six players, it is now flourishing with over twenty five regulars and over the last four years has been contesting again with some success. New uniforms were purchased last year thanks mainly to fund raising through various concerts in the local area.
The next major project is to fund the purchase of new instruments with the aim of starting a youth band. More news on this front will be published as funds permit.
The band is available for both large and small concerts, weddings, sporting events and community events.
Please contact our secretary Linda Clarke for details and availability.
